−37%

fewer food-logging days on a Sunday than on a Monday

Women log their food on far fewer weekend days than weekdays. In Turtle's food diary, from January to September 2026, the typical woman logged on 37% fewer Sundays than Mondays. Monday and Tuesday were the most-logged days, each about 119% of an average day; Saturday and Sunday were the least, at 76% and 75%.

And the weekend days that are logged run higher

On the Saturdays they did log, women logged about 80 kcal more than on their own Monday to Thursday average, with Sundays about 44 kcal more and Fridays about 32 kcal more. Comparing each woman with herself takes out differences between people. The extra is modest, and the days that go unlogged may well be bigger still, so the real weekend difference is probably larger than the diary shows.

What the research says

  • Across studies, keeping a regular food record was consistently linked with more weight loss.

  • Adults in a year-long study tended to eat more at weekends, and their weight loss came on weekdays rather than weekends.

Questions people ask

Do people stop tracking food at the weekend?

Many do. In Turtle's food diary data, women logged on 37% fewer Sundays than Mondays.

Do women log more calories at the weekend?

A little: logged Saturdays ran about 80 kcal above a woman's own Monday to Thursday average, and Sundays about 44 kcal.

Method

Daily food diary totals, 5 January to 27 September 2026 (38 full weeks, so each weekday appears equally). A logged day is 500 to 5,000 kcal; women needed 20 or more logged days. Women only, staff accounts excluded; every group shown has 50 or more women and sizes are rounded. This shows a pattern, not a cause. Full methodology.
